NOV 13TH to 16TH - NADI BAY HOTEL, TRAVELERS REST HOTEL

Posted by: dtoddbenson In: news

Thursday the 13th was filled with excitement and wonder.  Hung out at the hotel and finished the laundry.  Napped.  Tried to get on the internet but failed miserbly.  Ruben called yesterday and said that it was his birthday so we made plans to go out tonight.  Had a good dinner and went to Ed’s for drinks.  Played pool and had some drinks - we had a good time.

On Friday the 14th I went to the FeeGee Experience offices and booked the Kiwi Experience tour so I would see fun stuff in New Zealand.  Switched my flight to Sunday the 16th at the airport and then switched hotels to the Travelers Rest hotel.  It’s cheaper and the internet might be better, I hope.  Did a little more planning and got ready for the move to another country.

Saturday the 15th started with a wholesome breakfast and was followed up with sleeping, reading and relaxing for the rest of the day.  I scrubbed my shoes - New Zealand is a little strict with regard to tracking dirt on their new rugs, especially after vacuuming.  Actually, there is a real danger of introducing alien plants into their country that would take over the ecosystem, so they scrutinize camping gear and the like for debris to stop the risk.    I met Adam and Kate at the hotel that night - he is from Australia and she is from England.  They just spent a while living in Australia and now they are traveling to England to live there for a little while, I think.  They were having a conversation with a Canadian couple about Texas and guns and America and insurance.  After the Canadians went to bed, Adam said, “Hello!  Where are you from?”  We talked for a few hours and traded rounds before kicking off for the night.

Woke up and got breakfast, then packed up, showered and headed for the airport.  I thought my flight was for 11:40 AM, but I checked my e-Ticket and it said my flight was at 10:40AM.  I got there at 9:30 to find out the flight was actually at 10:00AM.  Inexplicable, but I was able to make the flight.  Watched WALL-E on the plane.  :-)

Checked in to the Auckland Central Backpackers hostel and then walked around Auckland.  This city is beautiful.  I can’t wait to explore more tomorrow.  I found Kathmandu, which is the outdoor store that was recommended to me, but they were closing, I will have to come back in the AM.  Spent some time writing and uploading - still with mixed success.  Went to bed at 8:30PM.

Hey bro, your favorite 1/2 brother here. We all know you look just like the milkman and that Hank always loved me the most. Hope you don’t mind that I used my nom de plume because you never know who reads these things. I have a reputation to uphold and can’t just blog anywhere. Besides, don’t think this site is unionized and my buddies down at the blog factory might bust balls. I think I just missed your call yesterday. Tried to call back but it failed. Keep trying, I’ll answer one of these days.

Not much has changed here. I’m still awesome and adored by all. Dad earned his roof painting merit badge last weekend. We rubberized the roof of my house and ate bbq pork after every shift (4 in total). It wasn’t really about the paint or the pork, it was all about “THIS”. THIS of course being me waving my hands in a circle to wax philosophical about a steak dinner surrounded by men who live to bust chops. The weather is finally dipping into the 60s here. It’s nice but it’s not FIJI!

My super powered man seed is still growing inside of my gorgeous wife. Boobs are growing daily, SWEET!!! We’ve already applied for 7 preschools and I read it excerpts from a MENSA training manual at bedtime. Sure its the size of your pinky finger nail but you can never start too early can you. He/she should be reading by 8 months, in the womb of course. On a serious note, Mandy got an ultra sound last week and we could actually see and hear the baby’s heartbeat and it really is the size of a blueberry. Ain’t technology great! Mom has notified every living soul in a 50 mile radius, biggest mouth ever. I’ll be starting my second and third jobs next week to save for college.

I’ve been following your trip all along and it looks like you’re having a great time. I have a few questions though. Where did all the hot chicks come from?

Why not more hijinks? You promised hijinks would ensue and I have not seen or heard of a single one.

Why the gay cowboy hat? Do you have matching assless chaps?

When do you quit the coke and go back to solid food. You look like you lost like 50 lbs. Red bull is not a balanced meal. You look great, keep it up. Get some sun on that white ass of yours.

Are you gonna come home with a traditional fijian or other cultural tattoo? Sounds like something you just have to do. I picture a teepee with a fire, illicit drugs, and prehistoric whale bones used for needles. Kinda makes me want one. Oh the stories you could tell.

Keep in touch and don’t come home until you can’t stand it anymore. As soon as you get bored back here (like 48 hours) you’ll wish you were back there. A little trick I learned, when you get a little homesick check into a REAL hotel for a night or two. Being able to walk around naked, sleep in a real bed, watch tv, and actually relax like at home will rejuvenate ya. Hostels are cheap for a reason. Traveling is exciting but stressful and often uncomfortable. A few comforts of home go a long way. Don’t hump the wildlife or eat yellow snow either.

ps - just read dad’s blog, FSU sounds like an awesome idea if you’re in to it. It’s beautiful and peaceful up there and school is easy if you can wipe your own ass. Oh, and the gym is free with student ID. Makes me think of Dazed and Confused, “the thing about these chicks is that I keep gettin’ older and they just stay the same age”. New crop every year.

Love ya,
